A Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring sustainability initiatives within an organisation. They focus on improving environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance by driving projects that reduce environmental impact, enhance resource efficiency, and promote sustainability awareness among stakeholders

Key Responsibilities

Program Development & Implementation

Design and implement sustainability programs that align with the organization’s ESG goals. This includes monitoring and evaluating sustainability metrics (e.g., energy use, waste reduction, carbon footprint) and preparing reports.

Stakeholder Engagement

Collaborate with internal departments, suppliers, and external partners to promote sustainability initiatives but also train employees and raise awareness on sustainable practices and policies.

Compliance Management

Ensure adherence to environmental regulations, sustainability standards, and corporate guidelines.

Reporting & Communication

Prepare sustainability reports, presentations, and marketing materials to communicate progress and achievements. 

Continuous Improvement

Identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to enhance sustainability efforts.

Background and Sectors

Candidates often hold Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business Administration, or related fields. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business Administration, or related fields. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., LEED, ISO 14001) can be advantageous. Prior experience in sustainability initiatives, project management, or environmental compliance is preferred. for mid-level to senior-level hires.   • Knowledge of ESG and sustainability frameworks: Familiarity with standards like GRI, TCFD, CDP, and ISO 14001 is essential for reporting and compliance.

  • Sustainability reporting: Experience preparing or contributing to internal and external sustainability reports, including CSR disclosures and non-financial reporting.
