Director of Sustainability

EnableGreen is delighted to be partnering with a global sustainability advisory firm to appoint a Director of Sustainability. Based in London, this role is suited for an experienced, commercially minded sustainability leader who can guide transformational change, accelerate growth, and deliver high-impact solutions across industries.

You will lead a multidisciplinary team of sustainability consultants, manage high-value client relationships, and drive the firm’s strategy across ESG, net zero, and climate advisory programmes. The successful candidate will shape the next phase of growth in sustainability consultancy—integrating thought leadership, service innovation, and a people-first culture.

Job Responsibilities

Leadership & Growth

  • Define and execute a growth strategy for sustainability services, identifying key markets and service synergies across sectors such as infrastructure, real estate, and finance.
  • Build and retain a high-performing, diverse team committed to technical excellence, client service, and innovation.
  • Lead from the front with a collaborative, inclusive, and values-driven approach to management.

Client Delivery & Impact

  • Oversee the design and execution of advisory programmes, including net zero roadmaps, ESG strategies, carbon accounting, sustainable certification, and circular economy integration.
  • Ensure project quality, budget management, and on-time delivery across large, complex portfolios.

Strategic Partnerships

  • Act as the senior contact for strategic accounts and alliances.
  • Represent the organisation in client forums, industry events, and public consultations.

Operational Oversight

  • Manage revenue performance, resource planning, and commercial operations.
  • Ensure alignment between business development, delivery capability, and profitability targets.

Qualifications

  • Leadership Experience: At least 10 years in sustainability, ESG, or climate strategy roles, including 5+ years in a senior or director-level position.
  • Technical Expertise: In-depth understanding of frameworks such as TCFD, SBTi, GRI, and the GHG Protocol.
  • Commercial Acumen: Proven ability to manage budgets, grow revenue, and drive strategic client growth.
  • Communication: Exceptional stakeholder engagement and presentation skills, with the ability to influence at C-suite level.
  • Credentials: Degree in a relevant field (e.g. Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, Economics). Chartered status or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • Mindset: Impact-driven, analytical, and forward-looking, with a strong commitment to climate leadership and social value.
