Environmental Manager – Advisor – London, UK

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Manager – Advisor to join a leading construction company. This pivotal role will focus on managing and implementing sustainability strategies, ensuring carbon reduction goals are met, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations across major infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving environmental performance across multiple projects, collaborating with project teams to reduce carbon footprints, waste, and energy consumption.

This role is ideal for an environmentally-conscious individual with a solid background in environmental management within the construction sector, looking to make a meaningful impact on sustainability within high-profile infrastructure projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create and execute tailored environmental management strategies, focusing on reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainability across projects.
  • Conduct carbon baseline assessments and provide forecasting to inform sustainable decisions during both preconstruction and delivery phases.
  • Ensure compliance with UK environmental regulations, including carbon reduction standards and environmental management systems (ISO 14001, PAS 2080).
  • Provide expert advice and collaborate with project teams, clients, and external stakeholders to integrate environmental strategies into project planning and execution.
  • Manage the reporting of sustainability metrics, including carbon data, emissions, and waste reduction, using industry-standard tools like OneClick LCA or similar software.
  • Conduct regular site audits to assess environmental compliance, identify areas for improvement, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Lead the development of training programs for project teams, ensuring the consistent application of environmental best practices.
  • Drive ongoing improvements in environmental processes, providing recommendations for advancing sustainability efforts across projects.
  • Work closely with engineers, planners, and managers to ensure environmental considerations are integrated at every stage of the project lifecycle, from design to execution.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience as an Environmental Manager – Advisor, particularly within the construction, infrastructure, or civil engineering sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental management systems (ISO 14001) and carbon reporting frameworks (PAS 2080).
  • Proficiency in carbon management and sustainability software tools such as OneClick LCA or similar.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex environmental data into actionable insights for project teams.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results within a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Additional professional certifications (e.g., LEEDS, IEMA, NEBOSH Environmental Certificate) would be advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel to various project sites across the UK as required.
