Job Description

Our client, a leading renewable energy investment fund, focuses on sustainable energy through investments in green assets like wind, solar, and energy storage. With a strong commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles, they are seeking an experienced Managing Director with Energy Trading experience to drive the fund’s growth.

The Managing Director will oversee the fund’s leadership, strategy, and operations. This role requires expertise in energy trading, renewable energy investments, and ESG reporting. You will lead the investment strategy, expand the portfolio, ensure financial returns, and maximise environmental and social impact. Energy Trading experience is key, as you will guide trading strategies, optimise market positions, and manage risk.

Job Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Strategic Direction: Lead the investment fund’s strategy, overseeing renewable energy investments and energy trading initiatives. Drive growth and profitability, ensuring long-term sustainability and impact.
  • Energy Trading Oversight: Lead the energy trading team, ensuring effective management of market positions, risk, and trading strategies to optimise returns.
  • ESG Integration: Ensure the fund’s investments and operations align with global ESG standards. Work closely with the ESG Reporting Manager to oversee the integration of sustainability into all decision-making processes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strategic relationships with investors, government bodies, energy producers, and other key stakeholders in the renewable energy market.
  • Risk Management and Compliance: Oversee risk management and compliance with financial regulations, energy market rules, and ESG frameworks.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Market Insight and Analysis: Monitor market trends and regulatory changes, ensuring the fund’s investment strategy remains competitive and aligned with future energy sector developments.

Qualifications

  • Education: A degree in finance, business, engineering, renewable energy, or a related field. An MBA or equivalent advanced qualification is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 15 years of experience in renewable energy investment, with a strong background in energy trading, and a proven track record in leadership roles.
    • Deep knowledge of energy trading markets ​​​​​and in setting up and managing energy trading businesses and strategies.
    • Strong understanding of ESG principles and how they apply to energy investments and reporting.
    • Prior experience in leading teams and managing large-scale energy investment portfolios.
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills.
    • Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of an organisation.
    • In-depth knowledge of financial modelling, risk management, and portfolio management in the energy sector.
    • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks, including EU and UK energy regulations and ESG standards.
