Job Description

A leading healthcare organisation is seeking a strategic and forward-thinking Head of ESG to shape and lead its Environmental, Social, and Governance agenda. Based in Boston, this position offers an opportunity to drive measurable sustainability and social impact outcomes within a highly regulated and mission-driven sector.

The Head of ESG will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring the organisation’s ESG strategy, ensuring it aligns with both corporate objectives and the broader imperatives of sustainable healthcare delivery. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in ESG governance, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory frameworks, paired with a strong ability to lead change across clinical, operational, and administrative teams.

Job Responsibilities

ESG leadership and governance

  • Develop and lead the implementation of an enterprise-wide ESG framework aligned with standards such as GRI, SASB, TCFD, and ISSB
  • Integrate ESG considerations into corporate governance, healthcare operations, and strategic planning
  • Report to executive leadership and the board on ESG risks, targets, and performance metrics

Regulatory compliance and healthcare sustainability

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with evolving ESG regulations, including environmental policies and healthcare-specific social governance guidelines
  • Lead ESG due diligence, disclosure, and risk management processes relevant to the healthcare sector
  • Collaborate with legal, risk, and clinical compliance teams to maintain alignment with both ESG and healthcare regulatory requirements

Stakeholder engagement and impact reporting

  • Serve as the primary ESG contact for institutional investors, regulatory bodies, and sustainability assessors
  • Drive internal engagement and training to build awareness and ownership of ESG objectives across departments
  • Oversee the preparation of ESG disclosures, sustainability reports, and external assessments

Programme delivery and performance tracking

  • Design and implement cross-functional initiatives focused on environmental stewardship, community health equity, and inclusive governance
  • Establish robust KPIs and systems to track ESG performance and progress toward strategic goals
  • Promote innovation in sustainable healthcare, from supply chain optimisation to emissions reduction

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, business, healthcare management, environmental science, or a related field
  • Postgraduate qualifications in ESG, sustainability leadership, or healthcare policy are highly desirable
  • 5–8 years of experience in ESG, corporate responsibility, or sustainability, with exposure to the healthcare or life sciences sector
  • Strong understanding of ESG regulatory frameworks, disclosure standards, and stakeholder expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence executive decision-making
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and analytical skills, with a passion for sustainability in healthcare
