Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Carbon Trader to join a fast-paced, international trading environment. This is a unique opportunity to grow the carbon trading desk of a global energy business, with a strong focus on both compliance and voluntary carbon markets.

Based in central London and reporting to the Regional Head of Environmental Markets, you will be responsible for building and managing trading strategies, identifying commercial opportunities, and leading activities in EU ETS and voluntary carbon markets. This is a front-office role with P&L ownership, offering a platform for strategic impact and career growth.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a proprietary trading book focused on EU Allowances (EUA), EUA options, and related structured products
  • Price and execute carbon products, maintaining a competitive and risk-aware approach
  • Monitor and manage position risk in line with defined risk parameters, including VaR, drawdown, and delta exposure
  • Identify and develop new commercial opportunities across compliance and voluntary carbon markets
  • Support origination and structuring of bespoke solutions for corporate and institutional clients
  • Act as the subject matter expert for carbon markets in the region, contributing to market insights and product innovation
  • Collaborate with commercial, legal, and risk management teams to ensure deal integrity and execution excellence

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on trading experience in carbon markets (EUAs, options, or similar products)
  • Proven track record in building and managing a profitable trading book
  • Strong understanding of compliance schemes (e.g. EU ETS) and growing voluntary offset markets
  • Confident working with pricing models and derivatives, with advanced Excel or Python skills an advantage
  • Ability to navigate complex market environments with sound judgement and speed
