Job Description

A leading UK-based private equity firm specialising in renewable energy is seeking an Investment Director to lead origination, execution, and portfolio management of investments in clean energy assets. The firm focuses on private equity and long-term capital deployment for renewable energy infrastructure, including solar, wind, and energy storage.

The Investment Director will drive deal strategy, evaluate investment opportunities, structure transactions, and oversee portfolio performance post-close. This role is suited to a senior investment professional with deep experience in private equity, infrastructure, or project finance, and a strong commitment to advancing the UK renewable energy transition.

Job Responsibilities

  • Source, evaluate, and execute renewable energy investment opportunities, including solar, wind, energy storage, and related clean technologies.
  • Lead financial modelling, valuation, due diligence, and deal structuring for private equity transactions.
  • Manage negotiations, legal documentation, and financing arrangements with sponsors, developers, and co-investors.
  • Oversee portfolio company performance, monitor KPIs, and implement value-creation initiatives.
  • Provide strategic guidance to portfolio management teams to optimise operational and financial performance.
  • Maintain relationships with investors, co-investors, and advisors, providing regular reporting and updates.
  • Track market trends, regulatory developments, and policy changes in renewable energy to inform investment strategy.
  • Mentor and support junior investment professionals, fostering team development and knowledge sharing.
  • Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and forums focused on renewable energy and infrastructure investment.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years in private equity, infrastructure investment, investment banking, or project finance with a focus on renewable energy or infrastructure sectors.
  • Proven track record of leading investment transactions from origination through execution and portfolio management.
  • Advanced financial modelling, valuation, and deal structuring capabilities.
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills with experience engaging investors, developers, and advisors.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK renewable energy markets, regulatory frameworks, and policy drivers.
  • Prior experience in a senior role at a private equity firm, infrastructure fund, or energy investment platform.
  • Professional qualifications such as CFA, CAIA, or a relevant advanced degree.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, or a related discipline is required.
  • Master’s degree, MBA, or similar advanced qualifications are highly desirable.
