Renewable Energy Technical Director, London, UK

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee and provide technical guidance on global renewable energy projects, ensuring efficiency and compliance with industry standards.
  • Evaluate project feasibility, including technical assumptions, design specifications, and energy yield assessments.
  • Collaborate with local development and construction teams to implement best practices and optimize technical solutions.
  • Monitor construction progress, troubleshoot technical challenges, and provide engineering insights to enhance performance.
  • Support contract negotiations by reviewing technical aspects of EPC, O&M, and PPA agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements across different geographies.
  • Drive innovation by identifying emerging technologies and industry trends that improve energy efficiency and asset performance.
  • Act as a key technical liaison between internal stakeholders, investors, and external partners.
  • Conduct risk assessments and propose mitigation strategies to enhance project viability and reliability.
  • Lead technical due diligence efforts for potential acquisitions and greenfield developments.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Renewable Energy Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in renewable energy project development, design, and execution.
  • Experience working in a global IPP, EPC contractor, or renewable energy consultancy.
  • Strong knowledge of international energy markets, regulations, and technical standards.
  • Fluency in English is required; additional languages are a plus.

Hard skills

  • Strong technical background in renewable energy systems, particularly solar, wind, and hydro projects.
  • Project Development & Execution – Proven experience overseeing the design, construction, and commissioning of large-scale renewable projects.
  • Deep understanding of integrating renewable energy into power grids and energy storage systems.
  • Familiarity with EPC, O&M, and PPA contracts, as well as environmental and regulatory frameworks.
  • Technical Due Diligence with the ability to assess and validate project assumptions, feasibility, and risk management.
  • Understanding of battery storage technologies and hybrid energy systems.

  • Leadership & Collaboration: Strong ability to lead technical teams and collaborate with regional project managers.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide effective solutions.
