Our client, an innovative energy company at the forefront of Europe’s clean energy transition, is looking for an Energy Trader. With an ambitious growth strategy and a portfolio that spans renewables, energy storage, and smart grid technologies, they are expanding their trading operations to accelerate the shift to a low-carbon future.

We are seeking an experienced Energy Trader to join the London-based trading team. This critical role involves executing physical and financial trades across power and gas markets while identifying new market opportunities driven by regulatory change, flexibility growth, and the integration of renewables.

The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of power markets, commercial acumen, and a drive to influence trading strategy in a dynamic energy landscape. Job Responsibilities

  • Execute and optimise trades across UK and European power markets, with a focus on intraday and day-ahead strategies
  • Monitor and interpret market signals, policy shifts, and grid forecasts to identify arbitrage and hedging opportunities
  • Collaborate closely with analysts, asset operators, and data science teams to inform trading decisions
  • Support the development and execution of trading strategies for battery storage, demand response, and other flexible assets
  • Contribute to commercial strategies around PPAs, CfDs, and emerging decentralised trading models
  • Work with internal teams to evaluate ETRM system enhancements and ensure compliance with trading regulations
  • Provide market intelligence and performance analysis to senior leadership and stakeholders
  • Identify and capitalise on revenue opportunities within balancing services and capacity markets

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in UK or EU power trading, with strong knowledge of short-term and curve trading
  • Proven track record in commercial energy trading, ideally within renewable or flexible asset portfolios
  • Experience with ETRM systems, algorithmic trading platforms, and/or automated scheduling tools
  • Solid understanding of market mechanisms such as imbalance settlement, flexibility markets, and ancillary services
  • Analytical mindset with strong quantitative and data interpretation skills
  • Knowledge of UK electricity codes, regulatory frameworks, and relevant compliance standards
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement ability
  • Strong teamwork ethos with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
