Job Description

EnableGreen, one of the most respected sustainability recruitment agencies, is exclusively partnering with a market-leading UK insurance group to appoint a Head of Sustainability, based in central London. As environmental and climate-related risk becomes core to insurance strategy, this newly created leadership role will be critical to embedding ESG across underwriting, investment, and operational frameworks.

The successful candidate will lead the design and delivery of a group-wide sustainability agenda, influencing internal transformation and external engagement. This is a strategic position for an experienced, commercially minded sustainability leader who is ready to drive measurable impact across the financial services value chain.

Job Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Define, develop, and deliver a comprehensive sustainability roadmap aligned with corporate goals, investor expectations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Integration: Lead ESG integration across underwriting, claims, risk, operations, and investment portfolios.
  • Regulatory & Framework Alignment: Ensure organisational readiness and compliance with key ESG frameworks (TCFD, CSRD, SFDR) and emerging sustainability disclosure regulations.
  • Climate Risk Management: Drive scenario analysis, climate stress testing, and climate risk mitigation practices within enterprise risk frameworks.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the firm in external ESG networks, client conversations, industry panels, and public forums to position the company as a responsible market leader.
  • Sustainable Innovation: Identify new products, services, and market opportunities that support low-carbon transition, resilience, and inclusive growth.
  • Reporting & Communications: Oversee ESG reporting, materiality assessments, and public disclosures in collaboration with Investor Relations and Communications teams.
  • Internal Culture & Training: Embed sustainability principles into corporate culture through internal campaigns, training, and sustainability literacy programmes.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in sustainability, ESG, or climate strategy roles, preferably within the insurance, finance, or consulting sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead enterprise-level sustainability strategy and cross-departmental implementation.
  • Strong grasp of UK and EU ESG regulatory environments, sustainability disclosure frameworks, and green finance policy.
  • Experience engaging with senior stakeholders, including Board-level executives and regulators.
  • Analytical expertise in climate risk, ESG ratings, and sustainable investing principles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to influence and inspire diverse audiences.
  • Degree-qualified in Environmental Studies, Sustainable Finance, Risk, or related fields. Advanced degrees or professional ESG certifications are a plus.
